Disadvantages:
Ødifficult and expensive to make
Ø not self-reproducing
Ø difficulty of communicating with organic systems
Ø must carry own (limited) payload

Øeasy to make using genetic engineering
Ø self-reproducing (cheap)
Ø easily communicate with other organic systems
Ø protein factories manufacture payload
DISADVANTAGE:
Øpoorly understood component behaviour (proteins)
Ø hard to program
Ø limited external control mechanisms
Ø limited to CHON chemistry and needs water

Ønanobots are introduced into patient’s bloodstream
Ø move towards atherosclerotic plaque
Ø bind in the region
Ø make and secrete a plaque-dissolving protein ( ApoA-I(M) )
